Civil society should be given the right to conduct surprise inspection of ETP of industries. Instead

5th June 2021 , 133 B Modal Town East, Ghaziabad - A webinar on water pollution was organized by National Vanguard of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha here today. Padmashree Sunita Narayan, General Manager of Earth Science and Environment, Marathon Champion Dr. Sunita Godara, Shilpa Mahajan, Director of Shubh Memorial International School Akhnoor, Udaan & Your Honor, Kavita Choudhary, Director, Telefilm, Radhika Anand, Green Ambassador of BSF and NSG, Professor Sapna Bansal of Delhi University, Lt Gen Ashwani Kumar Bakshi, Former Military Secretary to the President of India, Green Man Vijay Pal Baghel, Film Industry Director and Media Man Mr Uday Shankar Pani, India Merchant Chamber Administrative Member Commander Kumresh Sharma, India Major General Ranjit Singh, the Vice Chancellor of three universities, Air Vice Marshal Ajit Prashad Tyagi, former General Manager of the Meteorological Department, Rear Admiral Sanatan Kulshrestha, Commodore Ranbir Singh, Dr Narsima Murthy and many great personalities participated in today's webinar.

The question arose that if water pollution would have been reduced by installing ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) in industries, it would have happened by now. If the rivers were to be cleaned by spending billions of rupees on cleaning Ganga Yamuna, it would have been done by now.

A river does not need anyone's help to be healthy. The river heals itself once every year - by rainwater and by water (Capillary Action). The only requirement is that Effluent, Sewage & Waste should not fall in the rivers. Even if 10% of the amount that the government spends on cleaning the rivers is spent on stopping the garbage in the rivers, then the river will become clean. ETP is expensive to set up and running is equally expensive. That's why most of the industries apply ETP but do not run them. Pollution Control Boards are unable to continuously check the running of ETP due to less staff and corruption. Therefore, the civil society should be given the right of surprise inspection of ETP.

Mr. Uday Shankar Pani and Mr. Kavita Choudhary promised to make a film on water pollution. The Chief Guest Smt. Sunita Narayan and Lt. Gen. Ashwani Kumar Bakshi supported the suggestion of ETP.
